Fifth degree black belt Marty Snider is originally from Worcester, Massachusets. He moved to Annapolis to pursue his career as an attorney. Marty began studying Hapkido in 1983 and was promoted to black belt in 1988. On 28 November 1998 he was promoted to fifth degree black belt. Marty teaches the Wednesday night class which normally includes some sort of meditative exercise.

Marty enjoys a variety of physical activities, especially running. Other hobbies include riding his Harley and reading. Marty took some Judo as a kid, but he wasn't really involved in martial arts until he found Hapkido.

Marty's daughter was a student at Barlow's gymnastics. Marty would drop her off and pick her up when class was over. While he was waiting for his daughter, he would watch the Hapkido class that shared the gym. He was intrigued by the way Joe was controlling people. It looked fake. One day Joe asked Marty if he wanted to give it a try.

"Hapkido has been an experience in re-learning how I relate and function. I like that Hapkido emphasizes connection with self and with the universe, being relaxed in confrontation, and control without control. It's exciting to find an art form that teaches you how to fight but is non-aggressive."
